Debt
It comes outta nowhere, just like lightnin’ flashes.
One day you’re flyin’ on top and then it suddenly crashes.
It may be gamblin’. It may be the I.R.S.
You better watch your step or watch out!
Debt. Has it got to you yet?
By the seat of your pants
Do you do the debt dance
Misery’s minuet?
Are you caught in the net?
In a whirlpool, you bet,
And you’re not even wet,
Just deeper in debt.
Some folks got their credit cards. Charge ‘em up, have a ball.
They think plastic is elastic, but it won’t stretch at all.
So they take out a loan, cast a stone into the unknown future.
But tomorrow the future says, “Hi”.
Debt. Has it got to you yet?
Is some old back tax
Kinda doggin’ your tracks
Like a vile silhouette
Or a poisonous pet?
Does it nip at your heels?
Are you spinnin’ your wheels
Getting’ deeper in debt?
Some people I suppose, play fast and loose with their money.
Me, I was made to believe that money’s not funny.
But, if you’ve got collateral, then some cat who’s fatter’ll take your marker.
But has your ballpoint run out of ink?
Debt. Has it got to you yet?
Were you livin’ too high
Eatin’ pie-in-the-sky?
Are you startin’ to sweat
Like Marie Antoinette?
Is your collar too tight?
You lost your head, alright
Gettin’ deeper in debt.
In a whirpool you bet,
And you’re not even wet,
Just deeper in debt.
Like a vile silhouette
Or a poisonous pet
That’s debt.
